It’s barely even the start of the holiday season, but stores are already filling their racks with dozens of occasion dresses—and you know what that means, it’s almost time to start shopping for your prom gown! We know you’re probably thinking that now is way too early to start the hunt for your dream gown, but as any prom expert will tell you, right after the hustle and bustle of the holidays is actually the best time to start! So while you’re getting ready for all of your holiday festivities, keep in mind that prom shopping is right around the corner.

Don’t worry, if you’re still a little skeptical about starting your shopping early, let us convince you otherwise:

Shopping for a prom gown can be compared to shopping for a wedding dress, you want to start the process early so that you can be sure of every option that’s out there. Believe us, you’ll want to give yourself enough time to find the dress of your dreams (because as any girl knows, finding the perfect gown definitely takes work).

Another advantage of starting your search early on is that you’ll save on the stress of waiting for alterations or for dresses that are backordered. If you have to order a gown or have your shoes dyed to match your dress, you want to give yourself plenty of time to make sure everything is ready for the big day. And if you need any alterations, seamstresses in town will definitely be busy come prom season, so getting your dress early on and making all the necessary fixes well ahead of time will leave you stress free come May!

Don’t forget, a lot of prom stores only carry one of each dress or have a limited number of some styles, so you want to make sure you’ve got first dibs on all the best ones (and what better way to set the tone for prom than to have the first dress out of all of your friends… how’s that for planning ahead!)
