prom planning

via daweddings.wordpress.com

If you’re the one your friends are always going to for the best advice for party planning or the best new music, than what better way to ensure that you have the best prom possible than to get involved with your school’s prom committee? You’ll get a first hand in picking out all of the fun details like the theme, decor, and music. To give you a better sense of what getting involved actually involves here’s some of the things you’ll be doing:

1. Selecting a Venue
Whether you want to have your prom at a classic banquet hall or have something a little non traditional in mind, the prom committee gets to make all the who, what when, where decisions that’ll make the big day special.

2. Picking Out a Theme
Choosing a theme might just be the best part of the prom. You can make it fun or classic depending on the personality of your class.

3. Decorating
Do you want a photo-booth or a beautiful flower wall? The prom committee will give you the chance to scour Pinterest all you want for fun DIY ideas that will make the little details a big thing.

4. Music
We all know that the music selection can make or break a good dance night, so if you’re always making playlists being part of the music selection is a must!

5. Food
You know what they say: food keeps people happy, and even though dinner might not be the most important part of prom, a good meal always puts people in a good mood. Plus choosing what type of food your night will include will you an excuse to taste test your favorite restaurants in town (yum!)

6. The After Prom
After the fun of prom is all done, you’ll make sure that the after party is something to talk about!

How to Dress for a Military Ball

It’s military ball season! Getting an invitation to a military ball is an honor, but it also comes with the daunting task of deciding what to wear. The dress code for a military ball is different than any other black-tie event, in that there are usually strict rules of dress and conduct to be followed.

We regularly dress women for these occasions, and have come up with a list of things to remember, plus what to look for (and what to skip),  when shopping for a military ball dress.

General Guidelines for Dressing for a Military Ball

1. First and foremost, remember that the way you look is a reflection on your date. If your attire doesn’t comply with dress code guidelines, your date could get in trouble.
2. When in doubt, err on the side of being too conservative, as opposed to being too sexy.

What to Avoid
1. Cut outs. The one exception to this rule would be an open back, as long as it isn’t too deep or wide.
2. Overly bright colors or neon. Even if a gown is conservative and beautiful, colors like CORAL or TURQUOISE can make you stand out inappropriately.
3. Anything too short (above the knee) or too tight. If you would wear it to a nightclub, it’s probably not right for a military ball.

What to Look For
1. One way to ensure you’ll look fabulous is to wear a color that is complimentary to what “dress” uniform your date is wearing. For example, Marines wear a navy jacket with a bright, almost royal pants and a white hat. This uniform would pair perfectly with a dress that is black, navy, white, red, or blue.
2. Understated, elegant silhouettes. Again, it’s better to air on the side of simplicity.
3. An appropriate length. Knee-length, tea-length, or floor-length are the best options.

Here are a few dresses we love for military balls:

1. Alyce 5682. A simple silhouette in classic black with a lace overlay.

2. Sherri Hill 4308, For a slightly more formal take on the above.

3. Bari Jay 305: An understated, simple gown that’s formal without being over the top.

4. Sherri Hill 32011

5. Alyce Black Label 5620. This red dress is a show-stopper, and form flattering without being tight. A high neckline keeps it from being overly sexy.

6. Alyce Black Label 5646: You can’t go wrong with a subtly embellish, knee-length black dress.

7. La Femme 19915:  This dress is fun and fashion-forward, but still appropriate thanks to neutral colors and a conservative silhouette. We’d pair it with a strand of pearls and elegant top knot.

How to Prep for Prom 2015: Start a Prom Scrapbook

prom scrapbook

via ragsnehali.blogspot.com

This week to prep for prom we’re bringing you one of our favorite rainy day projects: starting a scrapbook. A scrapbook is the perfect way to get all of your inspiration in one place. So to get you in the scrapbooking mood, here are 6 steps to creating the perfect book:

1. Start with magazines
Grab your favorite fashion and beauty magazines and start tearing out pages that inspire you. Whether it’s red carpet pictures from your favorite fashionistas and their beautiful gowns, or a lipstick color you can’t get enough of, rip out anything that inspires you and add it to your book.

2. Add pictures of you
Think about a time when you felt beautiful. Was it your Homecoming, a family wedding, or a special birthday? Add those pictures to your scrapbook so that you remember what things you loved about your look, so you can carry those to prom as well.

3. Hit up the mall for makeup inspiration
You know those lipstick color swatches that they have at the mall? Grab a few of your favorites to put into the beauty section of your scrapbook. You can also take some nail polish swatches so that when you go to the salon before prom, you’ll know what colors you want to stick to.

4. Shoes, shoes, shoes
Finding the perfect prom shoes might be just as hard as finding your dress, so start early and find some styles that you know you’ll love no matter what dress you pick. You can even take inspiration from the Miss America Pageant, because their shoe game is always on point!

5. Add pictures of your dress
When you’re shopping for your dress snap some pictures of your favorites to add to the scrap book. When you’ve decided on the one, add pictures of the dress, your corsage, and of course your shoes.

6. After the prom
Now that you have your scrapbook started, you can make it a keepsake by filling it with prom memories. Add your prom ticket, polaroids of you and your bff’s, and some of your favorite memories. It’ll be so much fun to look back a few years later and be able to go through your whole prom journey.
