How to Prep for Prom 2015: Start Saving

saving-guide-1050x700

via socialgirlworld.com

Each month we’re bringing you a new tip to get you ready for prom, so once May comes the only thing you’ll have to worry about is looking your best! This month we’re starting from the beginning and digging in to the nitty gritty of money 101 with our 4 best saving tips:

1. A little goes a long way
Whether it’s saving your lunch money a few days a week and packing your lunch instead, or opting out of your coffee run for the day, saving a little extra money each week will definitely add up. Just think, an extra $40 a month can mean an extra $280 for your prom gown!

2. Don’t shop till you drop
This might be the one time that we’re telling you not to shop as much! While you shouldn’t stop shopping cold turkey, make sure you’re setting a budget before you hit the mall. Pick a few statement pieces that you know you need before you go to your favorite store and make sure you aren’t impulse buying. Don’t worry, it will all be worth it once you’re able to buy your dream dress this spring.

3. Start a Piggy Bank
Whether you’re putting your extra change into a jar or saving your holiday and birthday money, starting a savings is the best way to make sure you have extra money for prom. Just think all your extra money could mean a spa day with your BFF’s before the big day!

4. Go the extra mile
Whether it’s picking up an extra babysitting job or tutoring a younger student in math, every little bit counts. If you’re out of ideas for ways to get extra money on the side, team up with your girlfriends and see if you can put your heads together to come up with some fun ways to help out.

The Pageant Dress That Won Miss New Hampshire Her Crown

Besides being a source for dresses for prom, quinceaneras, and military balls, we’re also lucky to outfit many of the local pageant contestants competing in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It’s one of our favorite tasks, to help a girl pick out a dress that could change her life!

Of course, it’s even better when the contestants win! Which was the case earlier this year, when Miss New Hampshire, Bridget Brunette, won her competition in a dress from Glitterati. She went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant in September.

Bridget Brunette, at right.

The dress has since gone on to become one of our best-sellers, and it’s no wonder. Not only did Bridget look stunning in it, but the dress itself was gorgeous. Bridgette’s dress was Jovani style JVN86957.

Here’s a little bit about Bridget from her official pageant bio: “Bridget Brunet is a 26 year old entrepreneur who is a born and raised New Hampshire girl. In 2010, Bridget graduated from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration. She spent the summer of 2009 studying abroad in Rome, Italy at the American University of Rome. After graduation, Bridget took some time off to travel the world. She spent the winter around the globe with her boyfriend, 2010 Olympic Bronze Medalist Scotty Lago. She snowboarded on Volcanos in The Andes of Chile, bounced around picturesque mountain towns in Europe, explored the backcountry of Alaska and went down under to New Zealand. After a life changing diagnosis of Melanoma two years ago, Bridget vowed to live each day to the fullest and make her dreams realities. One of those dreams was to start a wedding and event planning company. Bridget is entering her third year in business as the president and lead planner of Bridget Brunet Weddings + Events.”

And if you love the dress, we’re still stocking it at Glitterati, so come check it out!

Prom Dress Trend 2015: The Crop Top

Crop tops have been a huge trend in ready-to-wear over the last few seasons, popping up on everyone from celebrities (like Taylor Swift at the I Heart Radio Music festival this summer, below), to festival-goers, to girls at the mall.

So, it’s no surprise that the trend is making its way over into evening wear. We’ve seen a big increase in the number of crop-top styles offered by dress designers, and we’re calling it early: The crop top is going to be a huge trend for prom 2015.

While baring your abs at prom may seem a little scary, the styles we’ve seen so far do it in a way that’s still subtle, elegant, and perfect for almost any body type (no need to start doing crunches!), since they show just a sliver of skin.

This dress was part of the Sherri Hill Spring/Summer 2015 runway show has to be one of our favorites. The full skirt and the high neckline balance out the crop top, making this dress the perfect mix of conservative and daring.

We also have a number of crop-top styles already in stock at the store. Aren’t they gorgeous?

If you like the look but still aren’t sure about pulling it off, one of the other big styles for prom 2015 is the perfect mix between a traditional silhouette and a crop top: The cutout dress. We can’t get enough of this one, by La Femme.
